Hard Growing up on 23st Ave

Published by onejia at 12:46 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Ah yes “Trendy Third” as the locals call it. A name almost bitter sweet as it rolls off the tung . Like most uptown cities we have a trendy spot. Full of the beautiful people who litter the streets like Christmas ornaments on a tree. That tends to leave the rest of us normal people out in the cold feeling useless on the fashion and beauty spot. Only it is our job not to feel that way or get get down that we are not chemically enhanced to be the the Paris Hilton’s of the neighborhood. After all we are fit, we are pretty, we do get our hairs done every other month. We wear make up and keep up with the trends. We are NORMAL. I myself battled the beauties for years when I first moved up here. Got into the middle of the scene only to to sit down and cry knowing I was a fake, they were fakes and the whole importance of the scene was fake. I warned a friend moving into the neighborhood not to get caught up in the who’s who of the popular kids on 23rd ave. After all they are just reliving high school, and college and the 20 somethings they long ago out grew. They were indeed overcompensating for insecurities. I warned yet it wasn’t 4 months into the game I met her for lunch as she frantically was trying to schedule her timer money and efforts all to get to the social gatherings with the cool kids. She was in tears her self grasping for straws in the middle of what she was craving. I only shook my head and said “I will be there when you are ready to make popcorn in jammies to paint toenails.” I will see her soon enough. After all there is no cover charge.
